Why “Craft What Matters?”

Hello! And Welcome to my new website & blog. If we haven’t met, my name is Jen Bach and I live on Cape Cod in Massachusetts.

You may (or may not) know this, but I blogged for many years on my previous website (www.bytheshorestamping.com). So, why the name change (and the return to blogging)?

Where did “By the Shore Stamping” Come from?

I started as a Stampin’ Up demonstrator in 2006 so that I could get a discount on my craft supplies and be able to make my own wedding invitations. That “project” turned into a passion for stamping, and I started blogging in 2008. I blogged pretty consistently for many years and then sort of “fell off the wagon” as they say. If I’m honest, my marriage was a little rocky, and I just didn’t feel like sharing anymore.

In 2014, I ended up moving out of my home in Harwich Port, leaving my now ex-husband (the one I initially made wedding invitations for). It was a very long and difficult decision and during that time, I used to take daily walks on Sagamore Beach — just steps from my apartment door. Those daily walks were what grounded me in a very difficult season. I used to post my daily beach photos on my Facebook page and that’s how the “By the Shore Stamping” brand was really solidified.

Why “Craft What Matters?”

In 2019, I met the love of my life (somewhat reluctantly) in a bar (after connecting online). And almost overnight, my world was completely changed. We were engaged a little over a year later and on a private beach in Hawaii, I officially became a stepmom to four kids and a step-grandmother (!) to four when we said “I do.” Life was suddenly very full of family adventures, coupledom and a sweet little puppy named Shelby.

And while I still believe in the power (and importance) of sending cards (especially hand-made ones!), I was suddenly drawn back to what originally started me as a crafter: scrapbooking. I love documenting daily life (even when it’s not as full and chaotic!) and besides the wedding invitation project, that was another reason I signed up with Stampin’ Up — I loved the color coordination for my scrapbooks.

Now almost 5 years into my marriage to Nate, I have a LOT of stories to tell. I love crafting (and stamping!) and I have some other projects in my long-term vision that may not be associated with stamping. So, I guess all of this is to say I’m diversifying. I’m focusing on what matters most to me right now: living life, telling stories and spending time with those I love.

What to Expect

So, moving forward you’ll likely see more scrapbooking ideas and inspiration (and still lots of card ideas, too). I’m planning to bring some new scrapbooking-themed events into the mix (stay tuned this week!) and tell more stories (I’m planning to bring “Sunday Stories” back to my email list and post weekly here on the new blog)!

As I make a plan for the new brand, I’d love to hear what you’re most excited about — and what types of events/classes you’d most like to see! Comment below and we’ll have some prizes to give away at the end of the week!

As always, thank you so much for being a part of my stamping (and scrapbooking!) journey. I SO appreciate you and can’t wait to Craft What Matters with you in 2026!

xoxo, Jen

    Jen,
I am excited for this mew venture! I love both cards and scrapbooking, but if I am honest I LOVE scrapbooking. I am excited for your venture forward. Change is always good. I really resonate with your experiences with marriage and how our crafting excitement sometimes gets put on the back burner. But I am.here to tell you my word for this year is intentional. My new marriage has helped me heal from the past and grow buds and then blooms back on what I thought was my deadening tree of creativity and this year I am going to be more intentional about documenting my life through scrapbooking. Let’s do this! Happy New Year!

    Jen,

CONGRATULATIONS on your new brand! I love it, I love the message, and I love your art drawing with the starfish included!!!!! Your nod to where it all began.

I love in-person classes (I’ll keep an eye on your calendar to see if the date(s) work for me). I also loved when we could do the overnight events. Always fun!

Can’t wait to see what the years ahead unfold for you as Craft What Matters!

    1. Hello, my friend! Thank you so much — I’m excited, too. To be clear, I didn’t draw the new logo — I had someone do it for me! 🙂 But I did request that the starfish be included!! 🙂 Stay tuned — and thanks so much for the feedback! xo

Congratulations Jen on your new venture. I will miss Thursday throw downs.

    1. Thanks, Susan! Thursday (or really Tuesday now a days) Throwdown isn’t going anywhere — I’ll still me live on my Facebook Page on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. (Had to switch from Thursday quite some time ago because of the tile job). Now I just have to figure out how to re-brand my page on Facebook!! lol

Congratulations Jen! I myself just signed up for a new project a week class. I thought I might try to learn something new. I also miss the classes in person, even though they were a lot of work for you. Keep in touch

    1. That’s fantastic, Ellen! I’m so glad you’ve got something each week to inspire you!
And I actually brought back in-person card classes last July! I do them once a month in Harwich! And hopefully, I’ll be adding some more fun events (virtual and live) in the coming months and years! 🙂

Congratulations Jen! So happy that you are following your heart. Are you still a SU demonstrator;focusing more on scrapbooking? Sending out new catalogs?

    1. Hi Rose! Absolutely still a Stampin’ Up demonstrator — 20 years in January! Not planning to go anywhere, just planning to do a little more documenting in 2026! 🙂 And yes, I do have the new catalog — let me know if you need one. Just email me! 🙂

  23. Congratulations Jen on the rebranding. As the cost of weekend crops is getting so expensive I would love to see one day crops here on the Cape or just over the bridge !

    1. Hey EJ! Thanks so much for the feedback — I really appreciate it — and there are definitely some things in the works, but nothing definitive yet! 🙂 Stay Tuned!

Good morning Jen. Congratulations on your new venture! I love scrapbooking as well as cardmaking so this will be fun. If you recall, we first met at a scrapbooking weekend where you were doing card classes and I made my first card. I still have the little wooden hedgehog stamp!

    1. Oh my gosh! The hedgehog! I loved that one! I still love both, too! There will definitely still be cards — just a little more scrapbooking thrown in, too! 🙂 Excited to craft with you in 2026!

I enjoy your card making videos. Where I live in Florida there are no Stamping Up demonstrators. When I lived in Wisconsin I had a demonstrator who I really liked & looked forward to her class every month. So your videos have filled a gap for me. Thanks!

    1. Aw, thanks, Judy! I’m so glad I can help keep you inspired! Thanks so much for following along and here’s to a crafty 2026!
